Railway Project
Launched at Downpatrick
Downpatrick
Railway Museum was the setting for the launch of the largest
joint project ever undertaken to promote the work of the
Downpatrick railway and the Listowel Lartigue Monorail,
County Kerry.
The
aim of the venture is a joint fund-raising venture for
both railways. Launching the project was Mr. John Noble,
Chairman of the Downpatrick/Listowel linkage group, whose
aim has been to promote the development of social, cultural
and economic links between the two town, which are officially
'twinned', and are responsible for bringing about this
project.
Attending
the launch were the political representatives from both
regions, including South Down MP Eddie McGrady, Mr. Jimmy
Deenihan, TD for North Kerry, and Senator Maurice Hayes,
as well as Down District Council Chairman, Mr. Albert
Colmer, Mr. John McGrillen, Chief Executive of Down Council.
Mr.
Noble, on officially launching the project said "the
hard work is only beginning for the Downpatrick Railway
Museum and the Listowel Lartigue Monorail, but with determination
and the commitment of all involved this looks set to be
the largest single project ever undertaken under a North/South
context".
